Japan and Haiti are both islands, the recent massive earthquake, although the disasters suffered - and the response to the devastation - were very different.

In Japan, rescuers and relief workers, to the treatment of victims discovered thousands of serious injuries soon mobilized their preparations were not necessary. There were very few injured people to care, because most of those directly from the tsunami hit almost killed.

According to the New York Times writer Martin Fackler, "a few of the survivors, who crowded in schools and other makeshift accommodation needed emergency medical help." The Americans said she evacuated a small number of injured. "

(A similar situation occurred 11 attacks on the World Trade Center in the wake of the September, 2001,.) In the next few days made the Red Cross hundreds of thousands of donated blood for the treatment of survivors, although it was soon clear that much of the blood are wasted (only five persons were alive moved Twin Tower out of the ashes.)

This is a direct result of a different contrast between Haiti and Japan: while Haiti is one of the world's poorest countries, Japan is one of the richest. The Government has billions of dollars available, not only to help concerned citizens, but to pay for earthquake-proof buildings and bridges.

Wide angle: Haiti earthquake

Japan is perhaps the country prepared for such a disaster; in Haiti, the way of the disaster was very different. Poorly built structures on the island reduced to people during the earthquake, so that thousands of injured and maimed.

Course means only, because Japan is not Empire that, which does not need help, because it certainly does. every country, rich or arm, who has suffered such damage humanitarian aid - should be provided, they want it.

And that brings us to yet another difference: while Haiti immediately issued a plea for international aid, it made the Japanese Government and the Red Cross clearly from the first day, that it does not need or want support from other countries.

Like about a week before Japan help from less than 20 from more than accepted had 100 countries had offered it. Holden Karnofsky, one of the founders of the GiveWell, a Web site, the charities, scrutinise times, the New York said "the Japanese Government has made it clear he has required the resources for this disaster."

Even the Stoic Japanese; broke the outpouring of aid and good will Pressure - nearly two weeks and millions of dollars - the Japanese Red Cross finally agreed to accept donations.
