Arabian sand storm

A thick wall of dust draught beer in the Arabian Peninsula on March 26-27, 2011. The massive storm covers more than 500 kilometres (300 miles) of the peninsula, parts of Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman and the United Arab Emirates.

The storm shows this pair of images from the moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) progression in a 22-hour period. The MODIS sensor of the NASA satellite captured the top image Aqua on 26 March and on the NASA, the lower figure captured Terra MODIS satellite on 27.

On 26 March the storm stops short of Oman and the dust is the opaque mass Yemen and crystal clear skies in the South. Some of the plume blow across the Persian Gulf towards Iran. The following day, moved dust to the South, has, and is particularly thick on Yemen.

The storm reportedly began in the late afternoon on September 25 in the Iraq and Kuwait local news. The fast-moving storm decreased visibility in the vicinity of NULL, Kuwait hide in early darkness. The dust storm shut down the airport in Kuwait and disrupted traffic on the Arabian peninsula.

Intensive North-Western winds drove the fast-moving storm called shamal wind. You blowing from the Northwest with the adoption of a storm with a strong cold front, which is the leading edge of a mass of cold air. In this case was the cold front on the Iraq issue. It brought winds greater than 50 kilometres per hour (30 miles per hour), Kuwait and slightly weaker winds for the rest of the region.

The dust and sand from the Iraq and Kuwait winds picked up and blew it across the peninsula. The storm may have also picked up material about Khali (rub' al Khali). An incredibly rich Sand Lake, Khali contains about half as much sand as the Sahara.
