Thick smoke waves from the White fire in southern New Mexico in this picture, taken by the moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) of the NASA satellite Aqua on 3 April 2011. The fire, highlighted, began on 3 April and grew quickly under strong winds. The fire by about 6,000 hectares of forest in steep, rocky terrain, destroying five homes and several outbuildings from 8: 30 had burned the next morning, New Mexico said fire information.
